as to the second part, no it’s not possible to determine what support mechanism was used when shooting unless for some reason the camera shadow or mirror reflection is in the shot. Monopods, fence posts, sand bags, pedestals, tripods, steadycams, and image stabilization lenses can all give steady pictures. If a “moving” shot is used, then of course it would not be the first 3 mentioned, so in a sense it is possible to know when a monopod was not used.
chroma key has several “give away” artifacts. 1. camera angle on talent and background don’t match. 2. backgound camera or talent camera moves, synchronization of motion is very difficult to achieve. 3. talent has a color that keys out, such as blue eyes, leaving a “hole”. 4. unatural shadows being cast against a sky or other distant background element. 5 insufficient color resolution in the live camera or using videotape for the talent so that tinges of key color fringe the talent, the “green around the gills” effect, 6. talent placed too close to the screen and being illuminated by reflected light or failure to use backlighting, 7 uneven lighting on the screen causing the key to drop on the edges of the frame. A very well done key is not easily detected though.

I have a tripod, which is a pain, especially since my hands might be numb with the cold and not able to deal with setting it up and moving it numerous times. Tonight I went out and bought a monopod. It seems like it will be much easier to use. BUT–the whole idea is to steady the camera for the night shots, mainly. Will a monopod, that I basically still have to hold on to, give me enough stabilization? I have a Sony Alpha DSLR, which does have the added image stabilization feature but my no-tripod night-time practice shots of our Island Lights showed that I still needed more stabilization to get crisp shots after dark. Suggestions?

More important than a monopod or tripod, make sure you have a fast enough lens, i.e. big enough f/stop. When I shoot night parades, I’m using a 50mm f/1.8 with the f/stop between 2.0 and 2.8 (1.8 can give too shallow depth of field) and the shutter speed no slower than 1/100. In general, if you keep the shutter speed at least twice the focal length of your lens, you can often get by without needing a tripod or monopod, i.e. 50mm lens = 1/100 shutter. Any slower than that and you’ll get image blur from either you moving or your subject moving. If you do want to use some type of stabilzation, I’d opt for the tripod. The monopod will give you good vertical stability, but you’ll still have possible horizontal motion.

3. Buying an incredible camera is just the beginning. You’ll also need to invest in some high quality studio lights to finish the job. When you see a video on YouTube that’s incredibly defined and looks professional you can rest assured that the owner’s lighting is pretty good. Depending on where your located and the time of day, you may be able to film a video with natural lighting but this is impossible to do during all hours of the day or better yet the late evening or midnight.
4. Video Editing Software is a must have unless your set on using Movie Maker, the standard editing software that comes with Windows. No one really uses Movie maker to edit their videos since most of MM’s software can’t handle high definition. Here are some of the more useful and popular editing programs: Sony Vegas, Power Director, Pinnacle and iMovie.

You can probably get a good one for less then on the internet or at store near you. Get one that’s tall enough for full body filming at semi-close ranger without having to tilt your camera upward. It’s always more flattering to film with straight to downward angle then it is to film with your camera tilted up.

Water Wise Women of Jordan
This short documentary revolves around the Water Wise Women’s Initiative, a program in Jordan that teaches women about water conservation and hopes that women will become agents of change. The program was created by JOHUD (Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development) and NGO. JOHUD works alongside GIZ (German International Cooperation) in this program. This short documentary is about the first women from the program and also in Jordan to be trained to become plumbers. Of the 150 women that have been taught about water conservation, only 16 have had the privilege of training to become plumbers. All of the women trained to become plumbers came from Khafrein, Jordan. The women were trained by two professional female plumbers, Brigitte Schlichting from Germany and Khawla Al-Sheikh from Jordan. The Water Wise Women were trained The documentary tracks the women over five months and it occurs in three stages. Stage 1: Filming and interviewing of women complete their training. Stage 2: Interviewing women two months after training to see how their lives have changed. Stage 3: Filming of women doing plumbing jobs in Khafrein, Jordan Valley. This video was directed, filmed, written and edited by Michel Honore. It was in cooperation with JOHUD and GIZ. People of major influence to the video include Ruby Assad, Asmaa Jarrar, Nabila Jalamdeh and Omar Abdel-Rahim. Today I went out and bought my first tripod not thinking until I came home “what about vertical pictures/videos?” I have a PlatinumPlus by Sunpak 6200DX tripod.
So is there anyway you can take vertical pictures/videos with it?

Most tripods tilt sideways, and I’d be surprised if yours didn’t. There’s usually a little release lever or screw (like a wing nut) that lets you tilt the whole head over. If you can’t work it out – check if it has an instruction manual.

Question by : Compare these two equatorial Mounts.?
I will be continually posting questions I have, as I am looking to buy an equatorial mount for my ‘scope. The optical tube weighs 30.8 lbs. I will be using it to keep the objects in view and do some broadcasts of my views online. I don’t need it to be like an Astrophysics mount lol. The longest exposures I would possibly do are only several seconds to two minutes (probably not even). I just want to delve into doing broadcasts, even if they suck lol.
Just looking to compare these two. I’m wondering why the Celestron is much cheaper and is able to carry 5 extra pounds. Any advice is much appreciated.

I have heard good things about the CG-5, but I have no personal experience. Given the much lower price, I can’t see not trying it. I expect you could return it if really dissatisfied.
